Another sight, that must be seen here is the Hill of crosses near Šiauliai. The history of this monoument dates back to 1850, when people from nearby villages started to construct crosses on a hill. Soviet Union tried to destroy the monoument several times, bet the religious spirit of Lithuanians was not crushed and they continued to construct the crosses. At this time, there are a total of 56 629 crosses around the hill. This hill is a real attraction for the religiuos tourists of Lithuania as it was once visited by the pope John Paul II and this hill demonstrates Lithuania's religious spirit to the world.
