My work in the Free Society Institute (FSI) and the Lithuania’s Student Parliament gave me several opportunities to deal with real policy making and I definitely see a great value in studying for an appropriate degree. With LSP, we have been representing civil society’s opinion on education as the biggest and the only democratically elected student body. With FSI, I have witnessed the whole legislating process: analysing the flaws in the legal project to assure tolerable legal protection of vulnerable women, we have gathered experts to prepare amendments - increasing the waiting-time before an abortion, for example -conducted research, mobilized various bipartisan interest groups to shape their view and present it to the Members of the Parliament. In the process of a state-wide campaign “Choose Life” to inform the public, I had to spend time familiarizing myself with the Lithuanian constitution, parliamentary design and obligations to international law. The learning has been enjoyable, and it stimulates me to come back in the long term as an independent analyst. I believe, that Sciences Po University is the ideal place to pursue these ideas and enhance myself to become a person with well-understood ideological values, being able to put them in practice.
