My First Encountered Politics, Philosophy And Economics
My first encountered politics, philosophy and economics.
An obvious choice for my A-levels was therefore History, the key social sciences discipline in Lithuanian high school programme, together with an Economics class on the side. One of my research topics for class, and while preparing for essay competitions, has focused on the clash between the Soviet nostalgia and the contemporary democratic sentiments. Examples include transition-caused unemployment that induced rural nostalgia for the Soviet farms, though the produce was never accessible for most. Heightened corruption, incompetent MPs and sometimes hardly logical coalitions, damaged the image of the transition to a democratic system brought about by a popular movement that targeted precisely all of the above.
My extracurricular activities also complement my formal education. Debating has helped me package information into structured, logical arguments and make convincing presentations.
