A building code is a legal ordinance enacted by public bodies, such as city councils, establishing regulations governing building design and construction. Building codes present the minimum requirements to protect the public from harm. Information contained in building codes addresses, for example, fire protection, plumbing installations, mechanical and electrical installations, and design loads. Often a building code adopts a provision of other codes or specifications either by direct reference or with modifications.
Another factor affecting structures is wind. Wind loads are randomly applied dynamic loads. The intensity of the wind pressure depends on wind velocity, air density, orientation of the structure and the shape of the structure. The wind pressures are assumed to act horizontally on the building are projected on a vertical plane normal to the wind direction.
