Decreasing exceedingly fast since 1971. Have slowed down since the 14 to 16 nanometers range things. In recent years mobile industry has pushed forward below 10 nanometers.
Quantum tunneling caused because the distance between the source and drain of the transistor is so small that electrons jump across the barrier. Electrons end up continuously flowing making it impossible for the transistor to have an off state.
FINFET reduces a leakage induced by quantum tunneling. It also allows for less heat generation and power consumption. GAAFET essentially adds another transistor compared to FINFET’s. Due to these transistors the devices will also become power and heat efficient and faster.
