Language and migration individual project introduction to applied linguistics. References.
Today some linguist say that there is no exact number of how many languages there are. In some parts of the world, which are not explored enough to know if there are people who speak different language, the most extensive web-based publication called “Ethnologue” contains statistics for 7,457 languages. That is the closest number of how many languages there are in the world. These languages are always changing, extending, developing or becoming non-existing. The term to describe this phenomenal is called language migration. The main changes that are happening among languages are caused by human migration to different countries or continents where their language becomes different than native language in that country. Language varieties are formed historically by population movements and flaws. Language migration studies involve part of population development and weaknesses of globalized world in a point of sociolinguistics. Imagine that this thing is done by approximately 244 million people, because a statistic done in 2015 by United Nations show that there are 244 million people who are living in a country other than where they were born and that number increased 41% since 2000 and now, in 2017, thins number increased even more. This means that language migration is also relevant concept these days and this subject has its own beneficial and disadvantageous effects.
Language migration leads to the extinction of a language. First step to language extinction is becoming an endangered language.
