Juozas Zikaras museum. Introduction. Short J. Zikaras biography Career The museum. Juozas Zikaras (1881-1944). J. Zikaras was born in 1881 november 18 panevėžys district. Over the years, J. Zikaras was studying in sculpture academy of Saint-petersburg. In 1928 J. Zikaras was invited by minister of education. About Juozas Zikaras career. In his sculptural career, Juozas Zikaras utilized two diverse styles of expression the traditional. He found work. Also in 1928, Zikaras created a statue entitled Liberty. The artist's works exhibited at the workshop of sketches.
J. The talent of sclupturing appeared when little Zikaras started carving wood works, wich he was sold for money. With other artists support like Jonas Jablonskis, Zikaras studied drawing in Vilnius. After years when he graduated from school, Zikaras was saving money for living and studies to Saint-petersburg‘s. With support of „Žiburėlis“ society, he was accepted to academy. Zikaras left lithuania and left to Russia to study sclupture.
In 1928 J. Zikaras was invited by minister of education, Konstantinas Šakenis, to live in Kaunas and from 1929 he teacher in Kaunas art school. Here in Kaunas, since 1933, all Zikaras family lived in a house, wich sculpturer build by him self. In 1944 Zikaras was awarded by professor status. When world war II started, three son‘s of his emigrated to USA and Australia. All family members of Zikaras were persecuted by soviet government. 1944 november 10, sculpturer and professor Juozas Zikaras died.
