At times when education was only available to the rich and prosperous, there was no need for homework. The teachers would pass down their knowledge and there would be no need for it. But as times changed around the 1950s, tension grew after the world war and in order to get an edge they wanted smarter children, so when they grow up would become scientists and engineers.
