“The Hate U Give” was directed and produced by George Tillman Jr, an American film producer, screenwriter, and director. He also directed the 2009 biopic “Notorious”, about the late Brooklyn-born rapper The Notorious B.I.G. “The Hate U Give” premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival and film received critical acclaim, with many praising Stenberg's performance and was very successful.

The film is set in a the fictional, mostly poor black neighborhood of Garden Heights and tells a story about Starr Carter black girl whose innocent friend gets shot by a police officer and she is trying to solve racism problem, because black-lives matters.

One time at late night Starr is driven home by her friend Khalil from a party.
