Different Types Of Love Essay

Not all love is the same.

In nowdays society, people tend to lean towards romantic love, even though it is a concept of social construct. The ancient Greeks had eight words that corresponded to different types of love, ranging from physical love (eros) to purely spiritual one (agape). Interestingly enough, the solitary word “love” is somehow supposed to encompass all of these emotions. Perhaps we should look back on how Greeks distinguished different forms of love?

The first kind of love is eros, which is named after the Greek god of love and fertility. The catalyst of this love is the physical body, therefore it is a primal and powerful fire that burns out quickly. It needs effort to be nourished into other deeper types of love as it is centered around the selfish aspects of love.
