In 1931, in Florence, Italy, participants of the International Conference of Ecologists proposed to celebrate October 4th , the day of Saint Francis, the patron saint of all living creatures on Earth, as World Animal Day.

World Animal Day is celebrated by people of all nations, religions, political views and ideologies who care about animals. World Animal Day has been celebrated in Lithuania since 2000

How the WAD is celebrated all around the world? How we all can get involved and show our care?

Various events and exhibitions are organized in Lithuania. For example, this year a celebration was held in Vilnius Vingis Park, where all people from Lithuania were invited to come with their pets. Various activities were held during the celebration: sports matches, educational activities on animal welfare, creative workshops. Also there are various charities in Lithuania that raise funds, food, toys and other things for stray animals. As well, many animal shelters, as in many countries around the world, hold open days or adoption days.
