The Elements Of The American Dream In The Famous Texts Of The 20th Century America
The Elements of the American Dream in the Famous Texts of the 20th Century America.
Liberty, happiness, dreams, and hard work – these were some of the most popular and most defining words of the 20th century America. People strove for liberty and happiness, since not all of the Americans were equal in this respect, even though these rights were “endowed by their Creator”, as was declared by Jefferson back in 1776 in the Declaration of Independence. Yet the revolutionary idea of this document that person’s desire for happiness was not simply self-indulgence, but a driving force for ambition and creativity, and that by improving their own lives people can ensure national progress as well, was, and is now, one of the most defining ideas of America, which was later embodied in a concept of the American dream.
The third text that is worth mentioning here is “Nobody Sick Nobody Poor” by Zona Gale. It is a different kind of work, for it is a work of fiction, and does not urge to fight for the America of your dreams, yet has undertones of the American dream in the story itself. It tells a story about a group of people who want and can help somebody in the time of holidays, yet does not know anybody in need of it.
