Paper On The American Dream
The American Dream. Bibliography.
Miller attributed two different psychological fields. The family was the most basic institution in the Puritan society which reminded a little church itself. It was a God-ordained institution, a spiritual and organic unity functioning as one. There was no fracture between two ideals: family and work. Miller dramatized a man’s inability to achieve a perfect balance between these two polarized psychological domains. Here begins a conflict between “Dream” and reality.
This conflict is intensified further because of Willy’s inability to transform a relatively impersonal world into a home that could offer familial warmth. Adrian Page states that Willy could be considered as a hypocrite. He is a man of empty words, values and twisted perception of the American Dream.
