Human interaction and cortisol Can human contact reduce stress for shelter dogs?
Interaction – an action that occurs when two or more objects have an effect one upon another.
Reduce stress – to bring down stress to a lower scale.
10.Isolation – the process of being away from other, being isolated.
11.Obedience command – in this article‘s case – a signal, given to an animal with intentions that the animal will do as it‘s told.
Previous research indicates that a dog’s cortisol level begins to rise on day 2, peaks on day 3 –4, decreases until day 9 and then plateaus around day 9 –10 when housed in a shelter environment. Cortisol levels are affected by many variables and have a high degree of individual variation. Interaction with humans may be an effective way to reduce the cortisol stress response of shelter dogs.
