Computer is basically a machine which can perform different kinds of calculations. As with all things it had to be invented. The first computer, called ENIAC was announced in 1946. It was a super large calculator, which filled up a large room, weighed 28 tons and was primarily used to calculate artillery firing tables for the United State Army’s Ballistic Research Laboratory.

Although it looked like a miracle at that time, ENIAC cannot be compared with the current computers we use nowadays, which are ten thousand times faster and have much more functions. In my opinion one of the biggest advantages is that computers can be used to make financial transactions online without leaving ones apartment. Although people mostly use it just to have a break, watch a movie or play some video games, computers can be also a great tool in every field of life such as medicine, business, or weather forecasting.

However, the use of computer has also created some problems in the society, like reducing the need of people when performing different tasks and thus increasing unemployment. Improper use of a computer is also a big waste of time and energy, because young generation is mostly playing video games or chatting for a long period of time. Thus way, it can affect negatively both their studies and health. A prolonged sitting on the computer can result in injuries or disorders of eyes, wrists, elbows, neck or back.

So to summarize, computer can be a harmless and even helpful thing if it is used properly. In my opinion, everyone know its negative sides, so it is only for us to choose how to use that modern technology.
