Does Charlemagne deserve to be called great?

In my opinion he deserves to be called ‘’Great’’ because of his willingness to educate his nation. Unlike other leaders at that time, he thought that education is very important and he himself tried to learn how to read and write. Charles built a school where Alcuin, a scholar, taught his students religion, Latin, music, literature and arithmetic. Charlemagne was also very organised. He made Aachen the capital of his empire. He made laws and created courthouses around his empire. Counts (Nobles) ran the courts. He also sent his messengers to every court to make sure that everything is under control. His kingdom was divided into 300 earldoms. They were similar to counties that we have today. Each earldom was ruled by and earl which obeyed Charlemagne’s decisions.
