Diabetes: Lifestyle Vs Genetics

Diabetes Lifestyle vs Genetics.

In the contemporary world, diabetes is one of the most significant public health problems. Due to the fact that diabetes is a life-threatening group of metabolic disorders, over the last few years, the number of deaths from this disease has enormously increased. Some scientists even claim that diabetes is becoming the biggest epidemic of the twenty first-century. However, the question, whether the development of diabetes depends on genetic factors or lifestyle choices, is still not answered. In this essay, the most important factors of the development of diabetes will be analysed in the framework of two research studies and possible implications will be raised.

As based on the analysis of the two studies above, it can be assumed that diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic derangements caused by both genetic and environmental factors. However, these studies have also shown that genes have a more significant impact on type 2 diabetes while the development of type 1 diabetes is mostly determined by an individual’s lifestyle choices.
