Character Analysis: Amir From Book „The Kite Runner“ Written By Khaled Hosseini
Character analysis: Amir from book „The Kite Runner“ written by Khaled Hosseini.
As I mentioned before, Hassan and Amir did not had a very typical friendship as other their age kids. Because of jealousy and other factors as being ‘’less human, Hazara’’, Amir never publicly admitted Hassan as his friend, despite the fact, that Hassan was his best friend in a world. We have an example of Amir getting afraid and describing Hassan only as his father’s servant and nothing more, when the Hazara boy gets bulled by Assef and his friends. This example shows Amir’s true colors as a coward, who chooses to sacrifice his morals instead of popularity among classmates. Later on we see Amir ending up by sacrificing not only his morals, but also his only and best friend in order to be accepted by his peers, who even do not care about him. Example of Amir’s sacrificing over popularity is when he turns his back on Hassan, when Hassan gets raped by the same Assef, who bulled Hassan before, while Hassan tried to complete the task of kite running for Amir. The cowered Amir witnesses the raping act and does nothing to help his friend, because he believes that Hassan is sacrificing himself for him. Even after his horrible event, Amir tries to justify his actions by stating that, “He was just a hazara, wasn’t he?” (Hosseini 82). However, the choice made by Amir to sacrifice his morals and rationalize his decisions haunted him his all life.
We see that Amir is clearly unstable person and the silent wall, which he built between him and Hassan is only making the whole situation worst, guiltiness, is killing him deep from inside.
