Perhaps many of our boys wanted to choose this sport. You can try guessing which sport it is. Yes, this is the second Lithuanian religion called basketball. So today, I’m trying to introduce or just remember a few facts and interesting things about basketball.

Lithuania men’s basketball national team in FIBA world ranking is in 6th place (between European teams 4th). Lithuania basketball league ranking 11th (without NBA).

Lithuania women’s basketball national team in FIBA ranking is in 29th (between European teams 15th). Lithuania women’s basketball league isn’t ranking (due poor achievements).

The first famous players: Steponas Darius, Pranas Lubinas, Stepas Butautas. The most famous basketball athlete is Modestas Paulauskas who won 2 titles of World Championship, 4 titles of European Championship and 1 title of Olympic Games. 1971 12.25 elected top 10 sportsmen of 1971.My father was 6 years old offered for city newspaper to elect number 1 M.Paulauskas. The other famous are Arvydas nicknamed “Sabas” Sabonis, Šarūnas Marčiulionis, Rimas Kurtinaitis, Sergėjus Jovaiša, Valdemaras Chomičius, Artūras Karnišovas and Šarūnas Jasikevičius. The most famous Lithuanian basketball coach is Vladas Garastas.
