Considering political relations the sanctions from US and EU countries are the most important international outcome of politics which has a major negative affect on Russia’s business environment. This led many foreign countries to leave the Russia’s market and find another places for expansion. Those sanctions had a major impact to the whole Russia’s economy. This international outcome of politics changed Russia’s business environment rapidly.
However, Russia’s government are trying to deal with that, they are looking for another markets, moreover, they are trying to make a better business environment for foreign investors. So, in our case, “Wolt” company is more than welcome to start a business in Saint Petersburg. In addition, from 2001 to 2016 Russia’s government was lowering their corporate tax rates from 43 to 20. This is one of the Russia’s government way to attract foreign and national businesses, during that time they managed to reduce the taxes almost by half. This should be a good sign and a good way to show that Russia’s market is welcoming everyone.
On the other hand, corruption in Russia is a significant factor which worries newcomers to start a business in Russia. Business environment is suffering from inconsistent application of laws, lack of transparency and accountability in the public administration. Due to Russia’s regulatory inefficiency it rapidly increases the market corruption and the cost of doing business in the country. Transparency international is the organization which creates a CPI (Corruption perceptions index) every year. In 2016, Russia’s rating was 131 out of 173 countries, this needs to be changed and government needs to take some more strict actions to reduce the levels of corruption in order to be a captivating country to do a business in it.
