What is more important to develop at school - to compete or to cooperate?

Nowadays, people discuss is it better for students to compete with each other or to cooperate? Some people would say that competition is very important to develop at school, but, in my opinion, cooperation has more advantages for students.

Firstly, when students cooperate they improve communication skills. For example, when students have a discussion, pupils need to say their opinion clearly and then listen to other students suggestions. When pupils cooperate together they learn to express one’s opinion, which improves student communication skills.

Moreover, when students learn how to cooperate, pupils can share work and save time. When a person does all the work by himself, student spends a lot of time doing every part of the work alone.
