Seahorses are beautiful, unusual fish. Many people believe that they only exist in children`s stories. Seahorses have survived from ancient times with only very small changes in their body structure and function. Scientists believe that seahorses evolved about 40 million years ago. Seahorses have a peculiar appearance. They have a head like a horse, a pouch like a kangaroo and a long curved tail. Their bodies are covered in bony plates. Seahorses are fish, because they have gills a swim bladder and fins. Seahorses live mostly in shallow warm waters. They aren’t strong swimmer.

They are limbless amphibians with snake like bodies, marked with rings like those of earthworms.
