Medicine has advanced in today's globe. Only professional doctors are authorized to perform surgeries on patients, and the operating tools are sterile, but what did surgery look like a few hundred years ago? A large number of people were present to observe a doctor perform surgery on a patient. Because wealthy individuals had their own doctors and surgeons who lived in their homes, the patient was usually poor. In addition, the antiquated surgical equipment was unsanitary. Every patient was treated with the same tools by the doctors. The area where the surgery was conducted was rarely cleaned. There was blood all over the place, and don't forget that the patient was awake throughout the procedure. Doctors were not hygienic also, as they did not wash their hands, allowing bacteria to easily enter the body of their patients. Even though we today criticize surgeons and surgeries that were performed decades ago, we should be glad that medicine has progressed so far and that procedures can now be done safely.
