St. Valentine’s Day Essay

St. Valentine’s Day essay.

Valentine’s Day, also called St. Valentine’s Day, is the time when lovers express their affection with greetings and gifts. It’s celebrated on the 14th of February. Originating as a Western Christian feast day honoring one or two early saints named Valentinus, Valentine's Day is recognized as a significant cultural, religious and commercial celebration of romance in many regions around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country.

The holiday has origins in the Roman festival of Lupercalia, held in mid-February. The festival, which celebrated the coming of spring, included the pairing off of women with men by lottery. At the end of the 5th century, Pope Gelasius I replaced Lupercalia with St. Valentine’s Day. It came to be celebrated as a day of romance from about the 14th century.
