Sociolinguistic Analysis of Thin Blue Line Episode The Queen’s Birthday Present.

In the first scene of episode, Inspector Fowler talks to his team. Policeman Goody tries to argue with him due to two forces, but Fowler does not refuse. It is clear that Fowler is in charge and nobody can go against him. Then, DI Grim appears and tries to show, that his methods to catch credit card stealers are better than Inspector Fowler. Two men talk to each other, they use abusive words. From this dialogue, it can be said, that they are both leaders in their teams and no-one of them wants to concede.

The next scene is in crime place. Policeman Goody and policewoman Habib investigate a crime. Habib makes simple and logical conclusion about criminal act, but Goody wants to impress Habib and makes another, more unlikely conclusion, even all evidences show that he is not right. Goody tries to act cool and asks to describe what was stolen, such things as self-respect, peace of mind, sense of well-being. In this way, he completely fails to impress Habib and stays in a fool place.
