It marks the day World War One ended, at 11 am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918. There is also Remembrance Sunday every year, which falls on the second in Novemeber.
2 minutes of silence are dedicated to honor people who have made sacrifices in the world wars. King George V made a request to hold the two minutes silence so“the toughts of everyone may be concentrated on reverent remembrance of the glorious dead“.
