Kaunas’s second middle school (two classes) was opened in 1920. After 18 years it became Kaunas’s 6th gymnasium. School was located in Sanciai, in barracks region (Stakliu street). It was wood building, built in tsar times.

Finally, Kaunas’s 6th gymnasium was opened in 1938 and Antanas Smetona, the president of Lithuanian republic, arrived to open it.
