the tongue – The most important and flexible of all the organs of speech

International Phonetic Alphabet – The symbols for the English phonemic chart

Diacritics – indicate slight alterations to the usual value of phonetic symbols

broad transcription – gives only a basic idea of the sounds

vowel – are the class of sounds that are associated with the least obstruction to the flow of air during their production

the advancement of the tongue, tenseness, length, schwa, the shape of the lips, monophthongs –pure vowels with a single perceived auditory quality
