In fact, I was pleasantly shocked to hear that the microwave oven (“a major time saver in many American kitchens”) was invented late in the World War II. Even more surprising is the fact that this household appliance, which is especially popular nowadays, was created entirely by accident. It all started in 1945 when an American radar engineer for the U.S. Department of Defense Percy Spencer noticed that his work equipment, which produces microwaves, melted the chocolate candy that was in the inventor's pocket. After deeper research into microwave, radar and magnetron technologies and a few more experiments with popcorn and eggs, Spencer patented the invention, which was called the “RadaRange”. Later, in 1947 “RadaRange” was launched as the first commercial microwave oven. Nowadays, a microwave oven can be found in almost every person’s kitchen since it is an easy and convenient way to cook food in just a few minutes.
