History Of ABS
History of ABS. What is abs. ABS - is a safety anti-skid braking system used on aircraft and on land vehicles. Origins. Anti-lock braking systems can be traced all the way back to the 1920s. Development. In the 1960s, automobile manufacturers began to experiment with ABS systems on passenger cars. The first abs system. It was invented in 1929 by automobile and aircraft pioneer Gabriel Voisin. It used a flywheel and valve attached to a hydraulic line that feeds the brake cylinders. Modern abs. Todays ABS systems. Components. Speed sensors. Comparison of a car with abs and without.
It was invented in 1929 by automobile and aircraft pioneer Gabriel Voisin. ABS system was first adapted to airplanes. The reason was that airplanes could not be stopped only by constantly pressing the brake pedal. Pilots had to press the brakes and then release them and continue to do so to stop the plane. So Gabriel Voisin invented ABS that allowed pilots to simply hold down the brakes and the airplane would immediately use the brakes at its maximum.
Todays ABS systems uses speed sensors and controlers to make it work better As driving along the road, the wheel rotation is captured by the speed sensors and sends it to the ABS computer. When you step on the brakes the master cylinder sends brake fluid to the abs motor and then to the wheels. If the abs computer senses a diference in the wheel speed if the car ir skiding it sends a signal to the solenoid in the abs motor and that activates a valve temporarely releasing brake preassure from that wheel preventing a skid.
