Greece Economy Essay

In billion euros. COVID 19 pandemic. Greece economy. To start with, I would like to talk about main facts of Greece. Content. Greece economy. GDP. Strenghs and weaknesses. Unemployment. Tourism.

Good afternoon ones again. Firstly, I would like to introduce myself. Today, I’m going to present a speech about Greece. And My objective is to give you a brief introduction to the Greek economy. So, shall we begin?

Its population is approximately 10.7 million; Athens is its largest and capital city;

Today, in my presentation I would like to discuss these eight points: economy, GDP(gross domestic product), unemployment, main sectors, import and export, tom popular companies and salaries, and shortly discuss about entrepreneurs.

First and foremost, Greece has a capitalist economy with a public sector accounting for about 40% of GDP per capita.

Moreover, Greece is classified as an advanced, high income economy, and the economy of Greece is the 51st largest in the world, with a GDP of $189.410 billion per annum/yearly

Furthermore, Greece is a developed country with an economy based on the service (80%), industrial sectors (16%), the agricultural sector 4% in 2017

Secondly, I would like to analyse the statistical data of GDP.

According to the presented chart, we see that from 1980 to 1995 GDP was pretty the same (more that 14 thousand Euro per capita) and there aren’t the significant changes.

Compered to Lithuania in 2020 GDP is 17,1 thousand. In my view, these numbers decrease because of Covind 19 pandemic, when our life was constrained.

As I mentioned, on of this is Greece's GDP growth has higher than the EU average.

Another positive aspect is that the Greece is a World leader in maritime transport

Moreover, Competent pandemic management and Rapidly improving business climate.

But on the other hand, Greece has a huge Unemployment level.

Whereas unemployment level in Greece is one of the country’s weaknesses, so I want to go over to statistical data of unemployment.

Judging by the results of the chart, we see that the numbers unemployment rate in Greece from 1980 to 2020 fluctuated.

In 1980 an unemployment rate was the lowest – 2,6% which is surprising since data claim that almost 98% of citizens were working.

According to the presented chart I can also say that the numbers from 1980 to 2015 have risen by 22,3%, which is almost 10 times more.

In 2021 unemployment rate is 17.1%. Comparing to the Lithuania in the same year it is more than 10% more than in Greece.

So, in my view, in Greece unemployment is rising and it remains one of the weaknesses of Greece.

Moving on to the next topic of my presentation, I would like to talk about the main sectors of Greece.

Agriculture contributes 3.8% of the country's GDP and employs 12.4% of the country's labor force.

Judging by the result of the survey, I can claim that the numbers of travel and tourism to GDP have steadily risen, but in 2020 the numbers have decrease because of Corona virus pandemic and lockdown.

Comparing 2019 to 2020 the numbers decrease by 23,3 billion Euros, which is nothing surprising since at this time was applied movement restrictions and people were forced to be at home.

The second major export is packaged medicaments at $1.24B followed by aluminium plating at $705M and other processed vegetables at $458M.
