Essay On Book Anna Frank
Essay on Anna Frank.
Translating Anne Frank’s Het Achterhuis Simone Schroth With more than thirty million copies sold in over sixty countries, and translations into seventy languages, Anne Frank’s Het Achterhuis (1947), sold in the English-speaking world as The Diary of a Young Girl but also known as ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ or ‘Anne Frank’s Diary’, is said to be the most translated Dutch book of all time.1 Since the majority of readers become familiar with Anne Frank’s story through a translation, it seems important to take a closer look at these translations. This article will focus on three languages: German, English, and French. I begin, however, with a few thoughts on the nature of the text (or rather, as we will see, texts) and its editorial history.
