Social media becoming more popular in today’s world has caused numerous mental problems to younger people. Images uploaded on different social platforms of thin, muscular men or women build damaging stereotypes. Many of the images portrayed by the media lead people to believe that being slim is desirable, and they will go to great lengths to achieve it. Consequently, this has led to a decline of self-acceptance, body dissatisfaction, weight dissatisfaction and higher levels of depression. An additional problem is that advertisers surround young people with idealized images of beauty in order for others to understand how necessary it is for someone to be considered attractive.
