Discourse And Ideology

Discourse and ideology.
Fairclough argues that due to connection between language use and power may appear unclear to people, it makes them vulnerable to be manipulated. So, it is important to analyze not only the existing ideologies inside the texts, but how the audience perceives it.
So the whole Fairclough’s work was concentrated on analyzing the role of text in perceiving the past events and shaping the future.
Now you see 2 examples of newspapers which was taken from his book written in 1995.
One of the greatest examples of ideology in discourse may be the well-known cliché about BMW cars in Lithuania. Few weeks ago I saw 2 different articles about the same car accident, which happened near Kaunas. Both articles in their title included the car brand ant I’m not sure when this feature of speech started to pop up, but every article which brings the news about car accidents includes the brand of the car, especially if it is a BMW.
