Deforestation Essay
Deforestation essay.
Deforestation is the permanent removal of trees to make room for something besides forest. Forests cover more than 30% of the Earth's land surface, according to the World Wildlife Fund. These forested areas can provide food, medicine and fuel for more than a billion people. Worldwide, forests provide 13.4 million people with jobs in the forest sector, and another 41 million people have jobs related to forests. As long as it gives people jobs, deforestation has a lot problems that we need to solve.
First problem, that deforestation causes, is global warming. About 20 percent of the world's greenhouse gas emissions come from the clearing of tropical forests. The reason that logging is so bad for the climate is that when trees are cut down they release the carbon they are storing into the atmosphere, where it blends with greenhouse gases from other sources and makes to global warming accordingly.
