When choosing a career field that we want to specialize in, we tend to create naive expectations. Most of the time, we get distracted from the bigger picture by the promised high salary or social status that the chosen field could provide and do not consider the negative aspects that we will have to face in the future. Most of us in this room have chosen to take a career path in the technology industry. And I think we already know the benefits of being associated with the tech field, but what about the drawbacks? The main aim of this presentation is to explore a common problem in the tech industry, which is burnout.

The main source of information presented on this topic comes from TEDx speaker Allan Ting and his presentation called "How to Bounce Back from Burnout." Allan Ting is a best selling author, TEDx Speaker, and industry leader in wellness. Having been burned out from work himself and one step away from homelessness, he went on a personal quest to understand the work life balance. He has spent years experimenting and researching different methods for personal wellness. The main goal of the speaker is to explore how to prevent or get beyond the burnout crisis.

Why are burnouts among people who work in the tech industry so common?

Nowadays there is very big competition in tech industry. You have to have a good resume and a big bag of skills when entering job market. And If you want land a high paying job, you need to take a lot of time and effort learning new things by yourself. Technology everyday is rapidly improving and what may be relevant today, might be useless not so far in the future. So constantly learning new things by yourself can be very challenging and frustrating.
